Fine Dining - I think not!
So - George and I have been lucky enough to have had a few nights out on the proverbial town in the lead up to Xmas etc so I thought I'd share my thoughts on a few locations; some to visit, some to avoid.
I'd steer clear of esquire on the Eagle St Pier (Sorry Julia...);purported to be one of Brisbane's first forays into molecular gastronomy but just tasted like the cooks had not actually eaten through the menu and realised that all they had done is exercised some impressive cooking techniques on a mismatched and lacklustre combination of ingredients.
The same can't be said of the cocktail list at Canvas (http://www.canvasclub.com.au); those moustachioed boys have tasted each and every one of their cocktails a few times I'm sure (George's is testament to the moutaches I think - surely every drink made out of leather will do that) and have perfected each one. I recommend the Logan Road Interlude.
And South Brisbane is really kind of maturing, and not just the trees finally poking through all of that concrete and wire they appear to call buildings these days, but having a few great little bistro/cafe's like PIAF (http://www.piafbistro.com.au) - who can serve Blue Cheese creme brulee like it's nobodies business.
Enjoy!
